An 8pm swim at Britannia Beach turned tragic after a 25-year-old man was found deceased 🤧💔🕊️

A late-night swim at Britannia Beach ended in tragedy after a 25-year-old man entered the Ottawa River and never resurfaced.

Ottawa Police say emergency responders were called to the Britannia Beach area at approximately 7:54 p.m.

Tuesday after receiving reports that a man had entered the water and had not been seen resurfacing. Crews immediately began searching the area where he was last seen.

Later that evening, members of the Ottawa Police Marine, Dive and Trails Unit located the 25-year-old man deceased. Police say no foul play or suspicious circumstances are suspected, and his identity has not been released.

The incident happened after the City of Ottawa’s supervised beach season had already ended on August 30. During the summer season, Britannia Beach is normally supervised by lifeguards from noon until 7 p.m.

Our condolences go out to his family, friends and everyone affected by this tragedy. ❤️🙏
