💫🐎 In 2021, an eight-year-old thoroughbred named Oh This Is Us won the Group 3 Cazoo Diomed Stakes at Epsom by a nose while sticking his tongue out over the line, creating a finish straight out of Cars.

Ridden by Tom Marquand, the 18/1 outsider reeled in Century Dream in the final strides and got the decision in one of the tightest finishes of the meeting.

The result was even more significant because it was Oh This Is Us’ first Group-race victory, achieved on his 72nd career start.

But the photo is what turned the race into internet gold.

At full extension, his tongue appears to reach beyond his rival at almost the exact moment the two horses hit the line.

The image looks almost identical to Lightning McQueen’s famous tongue-out finish in Cars, where McQueen stretches everything he has toward the stripe.

There is one important technical detail, though: the tongue does not actually count in a British horse-racing photo finish.

Officials judge the leading part of the horse’s head, normally the nose, while explicitly excluding both the ears and tongue.

So Oh This Is Us genuinely won by a nose, but the perfectly timed tongue made the victory look even more ridiculous and cinematic.

Is this the closest real-life racing has ever come to recreating a scene from Cars?

What are your thoughts? 🤔💭
