😳🇬🇧 London handed UAE-registered cars 13,423 parking tickets and managed to collect only about 1% of them.

The figure covers 2018 through 2022 in Westminster, home to some of London’s biggest luxury-car hotspots.

Every summer, Ferraris, Lamborghinis, McLarens, Bentleys and high-end SUVs carrying Gulf plates pack areas around Harrods, with some reportedly parking in bus stops, loading zones, taxi stands and on double yellow lines.

One recent example involved a roughly $400,000 Ferrari Purosangue with Qatari plates getting ticketed near Harrods.

The fines themselves typically run around $150–$215, which looks tiny when some owners reportedly spend roughly $34,000 each way just to transport their cars to London.

The real problem is enforcement, because UK authorities can issue the ticket but vehicle-keeper information generally cannot be shared internationally for civil-debt enforcement once the car leaves Britain.

Councils can use international debt collectors, but pursuing a relatively small parking fine thousands of miles away is much harder than ticketing a UK-registered car.

Qatar-registered vehicles received another 2,570 Westminster tickets, while four Gulf states collectively accounted for 41% of the borough’s tickets issued to foreign vehicles in the cited annual data.

The UK government has also said it has no plans to give councils broad powers to seize or impound vehicles simply because they are linked to unpaid parking penalties.

If someone can spend tens of thousands shipping a supercar to London, should unpaid tickets eventually be enough for authorities to clamp or tow it?
