As we head into autumn, I’ve picked three resources that reflect some of the things I think matter most right now: making time to reconnect with our profession, improving the care we provide for people with learning disabilities, and keeping up to date with changes that affect everyday consultations.

1️⃣🎤 RCGP Annual Conference and Exhibition

With only a few weeks to go, I’m really looking forward to our flagship event in Glasgow. Annual conference offers much more than the learning. It gives us protected time away from the pressures of daily practice to reconnect with our purpose, share ideas and spend time with a wider professional community facing similar challenges in general practice today.

2️⃣💙 Learning disability toolkit
People with learning disabilities continue to experience significant health inequalities and barriers to accessing the care they need. This toolkit, developed by the Learning disability Special Interest Group, brings together helpful guidelines, prescribing aids and patient resources to support better care for people with learning disabilities in primary care. It’s a practical resource to help us provide more accessible, equitable and person-centred care.

3️⃣💊 OTC emergency contraception

Changes to access to emergency contraception mean our conversations with patients are evolving too. Following the 2025 shift to free, widespread access in England, this short screencast is a useful opportunity to refresh our knowledge of the available options, understand what over-the-counter access means in practice, and support patients to make informed choices while ensuring timely access to care.
