LIV Golf has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in New Jersey, less than five years after its launch disrupted the professional golf world and created a major split with the PGA Tour.⁣
⁣
The filing offers a rare look into the league’s finances, listing assets of between $100 million and $500 million and liabilities ranging from $500 million to $1 billion.⁣
⁣
Several high-profile players are listed as creditors who are still owed millions of dollars. Jon Rahm has the largest claim at $7.5 million, followed by Bryson DeChambeau at $5.7 million and Dustin Johnson at $5.5 million.⁣
Other players listed include Cameron Smith, who is owed $4.8 million, Tyrrell Hatton with $3.4 million and Brooks Koepka with $1.7 million. Koepka left LIV Golf at the start of 2026.⁣
⁣
The league was backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund from its launch in 2022 until this year, when the sovereign wealth fund stepped away.⁣
LIV says the bankruptcy filing does not mean the league is shutting down. Instead, it is seeking to restructure its finances and continue operating under a new business plan.⁣
⁣
CEO Scott O’Neil said the court-supervised process would provide LIV with time to address its financial obligations and build a “stronger and more sustainable future.”⁣
