Police in Mendota responded to an unusual call Thursday when a miniature Texas longhorn bull wandered off after getting out of a trailer during a roadside stop.

The bull’s owner had pulled over to give the animal water when it slipped away and took off.

Officers worked with the owner to safely corral the miniature longhorn and get it back into the trailer.

No injuries were reported, and everyone — including the bull — was able to continue on their way.

In Fresno, a Theodore Roosevelt High School educator is being recognized by Yale University for her impact on students.

Yadira Gonzalez has been named a recipient of the 2026 Yale Educator Award by the Yale Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

The honor is part of the Yale Educator Recognition Program, which recognizes educators worldwide who support and inspire students to perform at high levels and achieve excellence.

Elsewhere in the Central Valley, an Exeter Union High School graduate who went missing in action during World War II in 1943 returned home after 83 years.

The family of Sgt. Adolph P. Aguirre gathered at Fresno Yosemite International Airport as his remains were brought home.

Aguirre was 21 when the B-24 Suzy Q was shot down over Lacedonia, Italy, on Aug. 16, 1943.

The U.S. Army reopened the case in 2019, and family members later provided DNA samples to assist with identification.

In May 2026, the family learned that Aguirre, known as Chicho, had been identified.
