It's Mischpacha Monday, and we hope you and yours are having a wonderful start to the new year. Today, we wanted to share and celebrate what some seriously creative members of our mishpacha have designed to celebrate 400 years’ worth of birthdays! 🇺🇸🏔️🎨

This summer, students were invited to enter a contest celebrating two pretty big milestones: America’s upcoming 250th birthday and Colorado’s 150th - you may have seen some of these pieces in the Leftin Family Lobby just past the main entrance in the Lower Division building. 

The challenge? Tell the story of America or Colorado through their own eyes.

Students could write a birthday letter, compose a song, or create an original work of art reflecting on the past, present, and future. They were encouraged to celebrate what they love, think honestly about what could be better, and consider how they and their families fit into the larger story of the places we call home.

📝🎵🎨 And they delivered! The Lower Division entries showcase an incredible range of creativity, thoughtfulness, humor, history, hope, and perspective—and, most importantly, they are entirely the students’ own ideas and work, and include everything from art and poetry to fashion and original songs!

Seeing all of these different voices and perspectives together is exactly what mishpacha is all about. Each student brings their own experiences, ideas, hopes, and point of view to our community—and when we give them the opportunity to share their perspectives, we all learn a little more from one another.

🏆 Winners will be announced and all of our contestants celebrated at our October Kabbalat Shabbat. Until then, we’re pretty impressed by what our young writers, artists, musicians, historians, and thinkers created—and we think you will be too!
