Mariska Hargitay is not only set to host the Emmy awards this evening, but she also already received two Creative Arts Emmys for her documentary, #MyMomJayne. The documentary, which marks her feature film directorial debut, centers on the life and career of Hargitay’s late mother, starlet Jayne Mansfield, who tragically died in a car crash.
 
In her acceptance speech, the actress and director mentioned the late feminist icon Gloria Steinem. “My hero and friend Gloria Steinem recently said, ‘Please tell your own story,’” she said. “It was such an extraordinary, extraordinary gift to tell this story and to tell it with experts. And I learned so much in the process and I got to know my mother, as I said. And so I just invite you all to tell your stories.”
