Game 17 of the inaugural MaxPreps Flag Football Showdown that is being held Sept. 11-12 in San Diego, Calif., featuring 18 of the nation's top high school girls teams from multiple states.

Few programs have sustained the level of success Newport Harbor (Newport Beach, Calif.) has over the past three seasons. The Sailors arrive at the inaugural MaxPreps Flag Football Showdown Sept. 11-12 with another experienced roster capable of competing for a championship.  Head coach Jason Guyser's squad finished 23-3 last season and has compiled a remarkable 73-7 record since the program's inception three years ago. Despite an early exit in the Southern Section Division 1 playoffs last year, Newport Harbor remained among California's elite after posting a 25-1 record in 2023 and reaching the Division 1 championship game in 2024.

Carlsbad enters the inaugural MaxPreps Flag Football Showdown as one of Southern California's premier programs after winning the Avocado League title and finishing 20-6 last season.  Carlsbad returns a veteran core led by junior quarterback Courtney Clemons, who threw for 4,776 yards and 68 touchdowns while completing 62 percent of her pass attempts. A standout softball player, Clemons fuels an offense featuring senior Georgia Hawk, who totaled 1,624 receiving yards and 30 touchdowns, and Amanda Aldover, who added 636 receiving yards and six scores.

MaxPreps and iFlag are partnering to launch the two-part national invitational tournament designed to establish the first rankings-backed, media-scaled championship stage for high school flag football. The September tournament will take place at the Elite Athlete Training Center in Chula Vista with a second East Coast event planned for Spring 2027.
