The way you pay onboarding bonuses is quietly costing you reps.

Most founders build a bonus structure to protect their own cash flow first, then figure out if it's motivating for the rep second. That's backwards, and it shows up in your first 90 days.

Here's the trade-off nobody talks about: monthly bonuses are easier for you to track and delay your cash investment. Weekly bonuses are harder to track and riskier on cash flow, but the rep feels rewarded faster, which matters most during the exact window they're deciding whether to stay.

Same $6,000 budget, two very different experiences. Paid monthly, that's $2K at the end of month one, two, and three when they hit two, four, and six sales. Paid weekly, that same $6K becomes $500 a week as they hit weekly benchmarks. You pay out the same total, but the rep gets reinforced constantly instead of waiting a month between wins. You can also get more deliberate about it and backload a $5,000 bonus into $1K, $1K, $3K to protect yourself financially while still giving reps a bigger carrot to chase later in the ramp.

None of these is universally right. It depends on your cash position, margins, and how much risk you can absorb early. But it should be a decision, not a default.

Map out exactly what a new rep needs to hit week by week for their first 90 days, then decide whether monthly or weekly payouts fit your cash flow and their motivation.
