The University of Alabama System Board of Trustees officially approved a $15 million deal for UAB to purchase the existing 9 acres of the southernresearch campus, located adjacent to UAB’s main research footprint. uab.edu

What the deal entails: 
🏢 Southern Research will retain ownership of its modern, flagship 150,000-square-foot research building
🚗 UAB will acquire nine surrounding acres, gaining valuable administrative and research space 
🔬 This move allows UAB to utilize previously empty or underused research facilities while allowing Southern Research to continue their mission
