Dogs are truly amazing. Looking at these photos made me hug my dog a little harder just now. 🤍🐶

More than 300 dogs worked tirelessly alongside first responders after 9/11, pushing through smoke and rubble to help with search, rescue, recovery, and comfort efforts. Pups like Bretagne, Apollo, Riley, and Ricky climbed right into the dangerous debris at Ground Zero and the Pentagon to track down survivors.

With only remains left to recover, the dogs started getting noticeably depressed and losing motivation from finding so few live survivors. To lift their spirits, human handlers actually hid in the wreckage for the dogs to “find,” giving them the quick wins they needed to keep going.
