Roberto Baggio, Fiorentina: purple 💜..On September 17, 1989 (Serie A 1989–90, Round 5), Fiorentina faced Napoli at the Stadio San Paolo. While Diego Maradona started on the bench recovering from injury, 22-year-old Roberto Baggio delivered one of the most iconic solo goals in Italian league history.

Match Overview & Key Moments
22' (0–1): Baggio drew a foul from Alessandro Renica inside the penalty area and converted the spot-kick.

31' (0–2): Collecting possession deep inside Fiorentina’s defensive third, Baggio carried the ball across the halfway line, evaded Renica’s tackle, bypassed a sliding challenge from Massimo Crippa, entered the box, and used the sole of his right foot to shift the ball past goalkeeper Giuliano Giuliani before finishing into an empty net. Baggio later ranked this strike as the fifth-best goal of his career.

Second Half: Maradona was introduced at the break (46'). Napoli completed a comeback through a Stefano Pioli own goal (61'), Careca (76'), and Giancarlo Corradini (87') to win 3-2, despite Maradona failing to convert a penalty.
