And the internet immediately did what the internet does best: turned it into an experiment playground.

Developers have recreated simulations based on the connectome inside Minecraft and DOOM, trained one to play Beat Saber, connected another to a driving simulator, and even gave one $100 to trade Bitcoin. 💀

Others made the simulated brain doomscroll, experimented with its courtship circuitry, and kept finding increasingly ridiculous ways to test it.

Important detail: these aren’t actual uploaded fly minds. The connectome is essentially the wiring map, while each project adds its own simulation, inputs, outputs, and training methods.

Science just gave the internet a fruit-fly brain — and the internet wasted absolutely no time with it. 😭
