As a news crew in Los Angeles, your aerial team is the most vital in that they’re almost always first on the scene and they have the best vantage point for visuals and gathering information. While I never had the privilege of working with or meeting George, just know that these pilots are the best of the best. When it comes to Eliana, she was always available despite being in the thick of it. I can’t tell you how many times we would go back and forth on twitter DM making sure details we were reporting were accurate for the public. I have no idea how she was able to multi-task:

1. Constantly live streaming for two networks
2. Reporting in English and Spanish
3. Operating the camera 
4. Dealing with the microwave connection back to the station
5. Communicating with producers
6. Communicating with the assignment desk
7. Communicating with her pilot
8. Listening to the police scanners

I might be missing more tasks, but that gives you a sense of the intensity of that job and how skilled you have to be while doing it. You could just tell she was working her dream job and from what I’ve been hearing from my community, so was George.

It’s weird to say you worked with someone nightly for years, but only met them in person a handful of times. Eliana would come out to award banquets with the team and everyone would be excited to actually see and hear her speak without the helicopter headset on. She was ALWAYS smiling and extremely proud to be on Team Peacock.

On my last day with KNBC we had a get together that went into the night. I wanted to stay out in time to be able to say goodbye to some of my nightside team (the show ends at 11:30p). Just after midnight, to my surprise, Eliana showed up after a long day of work. I was pretty shocked to see her. It was very nice of her to come out for me, and this pic from that night is even more special to me now.

I’m so devastated for the families, friends and colleagues of Eliana and George. And I’m also thinking of my friends who have to show up report on losing their own, some even in a helicopter. I love my NBC4 peeps and all my friends in the biz. I always have my phone on if you wanna talk.
