Cool things I found this week vol. 2 a Sunday download of what actually caught my eye during the week. No theme. Just cool random stuff that moved me.

* Alejandro Arrias (alejandro.arrias ) and his analogue film work. He’s a photographer out of Maracaibo now shooting fashion editorials out of Madrid, and the depth of color in his hand prints says everything. There’s a real pride in seeing a fellow Venezuelan working with this much delicacy and finesse at the highest level. BIG FAN.

- Akira has been such an inspirational touchstone for so many people, but on a personal level, a lot of what I love visually just stems from this movie. I grew up in an era of Latin America where anime was at the forefront of everyone’s childhood, not just because of Dragon Ball Z, but because we had a network playing anime around the clock. That gave me the fortune of witnessing this film at an early age, and while I didn’t understand most of it, the visuals have always stayed with me. Getting to see it on IMAX now, restored in 4K, is such a gift. RUN to your local theater.

Almost like tattoos, and a reminder that sometimes we’re so focused on resale value that we forget to make the thing ours. Leica’s had a whole program for this for years, engraving names and signatures into the top plate the same way people pass down a watch, brassing and all. That’s the part that gets me. The wear becomes the provenance. Yes to customizing.

This picture by Lance Skundrich. Similar to the point above, I feel like we’ve chased perfection so hard in this era that storytelling has started to feel secondary. This image, aside from being beautifully shot, has so much to say and so much depth of emotion that it moved me both personally and creatively. Story will always be king. S/O shuttrskunk

Kyle Alialy’s photo documentarian approach moved me. Seeing lived-in memories like an amusement park or a baseball game shot the way he shoots them, in a way that resembled my own most treasured memories, felt like watching a painting made with a camera. kjalialy
