Continuing to tell our Centennial story! Harry Case moved to Venice in 1971 from Ohio with his wife, Marguerite. He served two stints as Venice’s mayor, which were seven years apart and spanned three decades: 1976 to 1980 and 1987 to 1992.

He was originally from Ohio, where he earned an engineering degree. After college, he worked for the federal government in the Works Progress Administration, building roads and bridges.

“You could debate Harry and argue with him,” said former City Mayor Dean Calamaras, who won a City Council seat in 1986 as Case campaigned for mayor. “But then he’d give you that big smile, pat you on the back and say, ‘Hey, let’s go get lunch.’ “
