A year ago, at exactly 3am, I was robbed at gunpoint in Johannesburg, South Africa.

A few hours later, I stood on stage and delivered the best pitch of aichitect.xyz to date

We came 2nd in the G20 Global Pitch Competition.

Two armed men pulled up on me in my hotel lobby that morning. By every human measure, I should have been shaken, afraid, angry, or completely unable to perform, but I was calm and even spoke with them

I woke up dancing and praising God.

I had a joy that surpassed all understanding.

And weirdly, I remember thinking that I was the right person for this to happen to. Not because I wanted it, but because my faith meant that what had happened to me did not have to determine what happened next.

During the Q&A after my pitch, I was asked:

“What makes you the right founder?”

My answer was simple.

“I was robbed at gunpoint this morning, and I’m standing here pitching to you like nothing happened.”

I will never forget the love that followed.

Friends immediately offered support. Help. Money. Whatever I needed. People surrounded me with a level of love and care I will always be grateful for. God bless every single one of you.

A year later, I thank God that we are looking back on that day as a testimony, and not remembering it for something very different.

I thank Him for keeping me.
I thank Him for the peace He gave me.
I thank Him for the strength to stand.
I thank Him for how far He has brought us since.

God was worthy of my praise at 3am that morning.

He was worthy when I stepped onto that stage.

And one year later, He is still worthy to be praised.
