Trailing by two runs going into the ninth inning, the Hillsboro Hops final game of the 2026 Season was teetering on another loss by the hands of the Eugene Emeralds at Hillsboro Hops Ballpark on September 6th. As reported in the first post of this two-post series, the Hops trailed the Emeralds by two runs entering the ninth, 4-6. In the top of the inning, the leadoff batters for Eugene popped out to the infield and flew out to center field. The following two batters singled and walked to threaten an extension of the Emeralds lead, however the following batter flew out to shut down the top half of the inning. Now it was time for the Hops to get to work. After leadoff batter Adrian De Leon struck out, Wallace Clark brought Hops fans to their feet with a double to right field. Clark stole third base on a passed ball and Abdias De La Cruz walked to put runners at the corners. Next, a Carlos Virahonda sacrifice fly to right field scored Wallace from third. Sitting on a two out situation, Kayson Cunningham singled to center field advancing De La Cruz to second base. The table was now set with two runners on base it was time for Yassel Soler to serve it up. In dramatic fashion, Soler ended up taking the count to 3-2, with two outs. Reaching for a down and outside breaking ball, Soler popped it softly down the line into left field. De La Cruz made haste to score from second while Kayson Cunningham charged from first base to slide past the attempted tag at home to score the walk off run to down the Eugene Emeralds 7-6. With Soler being the first Hops player to hit a home run in the new Hillsboro Hops Ballpark (a walk off win at that), it was only fitting that he lowered the curtain to close out the 2026 Season in style. #allhoppedup #hillsborohops #milb #baseball⚾ hillsborohops
