10,000 hours won’t make you great if you spend 10,000 hours practicing the wrong way.

I’ve always heard the “10,000-hour rule”: put in enough time and eventually you’ll become an expert.

But the research behind it tells a much more useful story.

The best performers weren’t simply practicing more. They were practicing better:

1. Practice with full focus.
Not mindless repetition. Full concentration on a specific part of your performance you’re trying to improve.

2. Work with an expert coach.
Top performers had someone who could see what they couldn’t, identify weaknesses, and continually push them beyond their current level.

3. Create a quick feedback loop.
 Practice → feedback → adjust → repeat.
The faster you recognize and correct mistakes, the faster you improve.

That was my biggest takeaway:
It’s not just 10,000 hours. It’s 10,000 hours of continually adjusting your execution to get closer to your goal.

And that applies to far more than sports — it applies to business, leadership, relationships, health, and life.

You don't necessarily need to work harder.
You need focused effort + expert coaching + fast feedback.

That’s also exactly how I approach coaching: identify where you are, get clear on where you want to go, find the gaps, and continually adjust until you close them.

If you’re serious about becoming a higher-performing version of yourself, DM me “COACHING.”
