As the desperate search for a missing D.C. mother continues, authorities say they arrested her ex in Pennsylvania after a probation violation. He was on probation after assaulting her in 2021, court documents say.⁠

Antoinette Forbes, 53, was last seen on Sept. 4 near her home in Northwest D.C. Loved ones describe her as a devoted mom who would never choose to leave her young son.⁠

Russell Ashford – Forbes’ ex-partner and her son’s father – was arrested during a traffic stop in Pennsylvania on Saturday for violating the terms of his probation in Maryland, Pennsylvania State Police said.⁠

D.C.’s Metropolitan Police Department has not named Ashford a suspect in Forbes’ disappearance or charged him in connection to her disappearance.⁠

Court records in Montgomery County say Ashford was on probation after he pleaded guilty to assaulting Forbes in Chevy Chase, Maryland, in 2021.⁠

A neighbor testified that he heard the couple arguing all night and became so concerned that he took the couple’s son into his home.⁠
⁠
The neighbor said he heard a thump, ran into the Forbes’ house and found Ashford “throwing closed fist punches at Forbes.”⁠

Ashford was sentenced to probation before judgement.⁠

It wasn’t immediately clear which terms of his probation Ashford is accused of violating. News4 tried to speak with an attorney for Ashford. The attorney listed in his assault case said they no longer represent him.⁠

Pennsylvania police said Ashford was being held on an out-of-state warrant and is in custody. The Montgomery County State's Attorney's Office said Ashford likely will be extradited back to Montgomery County and appear in court regarding the probation violation.⁠

No new information was immediately released on Forbes’ whereabouts. Her son is safe and being cared for by a relative, a source familiar with the matter told News4.⁠

Forbes’ loved ones say they went to check on her at home and found the front door unlocked, with her car keys, wallet and two phones inside.⁠
