Because people usually show you who they are long before they hurt you.

Pay attention to their discipline.

Do they consistently do what they say they're going to do?

Pay attention to their integrity.

Are they dishonest with other people? Do they lie when it's convenient? Do they bend their principles when there is something to gain?

Pay attention to their commitment.

Do they honor their promises when nobody is watching?

These things matter because character doesn't suddenly appear when someone enters a relationship.

People don't magically become disciplined, honest, or committed because they have a partner.

They bring the character they already have into the relationship.

And if you see someone repeatedly demonstrating a lack of integrity, discipline, or commitment and convince yourself that you'll somehow be the exception, you're ignoring valuable information.

You can't control whether someone cheats.

But you can control who you choose to trust.

The betrayal is theirs.

Ignoring the warning signs is yours.

Choose accordingly.
