Peaceful protesters have been labelled criminals, extremists and even terrorists.

Governments and corporations have deployed surveillance, imposed protest bans, carried out mass arrests and pursued prison sentences.

This is not a coincidence. It’s a well crafted playbook, and it’s being used around the world.

In 2025, protesters were reportedly detained at more than 200 protests across at least 82 countries. At just one peaceful protest in London in 2026, 523 people were reportedly arrested.

Now, 11 Greenpeace activists are about to face trial in Spain for peacefully protesting against fossil gas. They could receive up to five years in prison, an unprecedented sentencing request for climate activists in Europe.

The aim is clear: make it more dangerous to speak out and harder for people to come together to challenge those in power.

But if protest didn’t work, they wouldn’t try so hard to stop it.

Our freedoms are kept alive by exercising them and protecting those who do.

Our voices will not be criminalised. It’s time to resist! Share this post if you agree.
