In the wake of Olivia Rodrigo’s Daisy Chain Fields festival, the passing of one of the country’s most beloved philanthropists, Dolly Parton, and the ten-year anniversary of Colin Kaepernick’s kneel seen around the world, the rest of Hollywood’s silence has never been so loud.

Through the last five years alone the world has experienced racial turmoil, gender-based discrimination, economic crises, and countless unjust deaths at the hands of police brutality, gun violence, famine and domestic abuse. Meanwhile, many celebrities seem to live in a world of their own, where the most important topic of conversation is press for their new blockbuster or shutting down gossip about their new fling. They have no problem using their influence to sell us products from their new clothing line, but using it to spread awareness about the immigration raids is just too far.

With so much global political unrest, it can be jarring to see public figures seemingly ignore everything going on. Artists and actors can post brand sponsorships, red carpet interviews, and model photoshoots, but draw the line at promoting charities or denouncing a problematic policy.
