SEC Week 2 Top Plays

Texas A&M's first fourth-quarter score came on a manageable 1st-and-10 that the Aggies converted into six, and their second touchdown drive similarly started fresh at 1st-and-10 before finding the end zone. Their third and final score of the stretch came right after forcing Arizona State into a 2nd-and-7, setting up one more Aggie possession to put the game away for good.

Georgia's second-quarter touchdown came after Western Kentucky faced a 3rd-and-3 deep in its own territory, a snap that turned into six points the other way. Late in the fourth quarter, with the Hilltoppers still searching for answers, Georgia tacked on another score to cap the rout.

The wildest sequence of the night belonged to Alabama-Kentucky. Backed up deep in its own territory facing a brutal 3rd-and-22, Alabama's offense had nowhere to go, and the resulting incompletion was picked off and returned for a Kentucky touchdown. Alabama got instant payback on a 3rd-and-6 snap of its own, intercepting Kentucky's quarterback and racing it back the other way. Later, with a fresh set of downs at 1st-and-10, Daniel Hill broke free on a 34-yard scamper to put Alabama in control for good.

Florida's two backbreaking plays against Campbell both came off desperate Campbell punts, one on a 4th-and-18 deep in Campbell territory, with Vernell Brown III fielding the kick both times and running through the entire Campbell coverage unit for touchdowns.

Tennessee's go-ahead score at Georgia Tech came on a 2nd-and-2 near midfield, a short-yardage snap that turned into a touchdown to take control of a tied game. LSU's late score against Louisiana Tech came on a first-and-goal from point-blank range, about as low-drama as a touchdown gets.

South Carolina's first special-teams touchdown against Towson came off a Towson punt facing a long 1st-and-20, with Vicari Swain fielding it and racing untouched. His second, a 45-yarder, came off another Towson punt with the Bulldogs backed into a 3rd-and-1 near midfield.

Auburn's touchdown came on the very first defensive snap of the game, a 1st-and-15 for Southern Miss from deep in its own territory, intercepted before the offense even got comfortable. Ole Miss's score against Charlotte came on a 2nd-and-goal from just outside the end zone, with Deuce Knight punching it in from 7 yards out.

And the signature moment of the week came down to a single snap: facing 3rd-and-goal from the doorstep with 25 seconds on the clock, trailing Ohio State, Texas handed it to Hollywood Smothers, who leaped over the pile to complete a 20-point fourth-quarter comeback.
