Southern Miss Golden Eagles vs. Auburn Tigers - Highlights | 2026 Regular Season Week 2, 09/12/2026

Southern Miss 8, Auburn 43
Jordan-Hare Stadium, Auburn, AL. September 12, 2026

Auburn bounced back from a nail-biting Week 1 win over Baylor with a dominant home-opening rout of Southern Miss, winning 43-8 in a game that started with a bang after a lightning delay pushed back kickoff.

The Tigers wasted no time making a statement. On the very first snap of the game, cornerback Andre Jordan Jr. intercepted Southern Miss quarterback Ethan Hampton and returned it to the house, scoring in just 10 seconds, the fastest score to open a game in Auburn history, breaking a record previously shared by Deuce Knight and Cadillac Williams. Jordan wasn't done, picking off Hampton again later in the first quarter, this time stepping in front of a pass intended for Mario Sanders following a false-start penalty to set up another Auburn score.

Quarterback Byrum Brown was efficient and multifaceted all night, throwing for 226 yards and two touchdowns, a 22-yard strike to Jonathen Echols and an 8-yard connection with DeShawn Spencer, while also rushing for 88 yards on 13 carries and hauling in a touchdown pass of his own on a trick play, diving for a 5-yard score on a fourth-down reverse pass thrown by Christian Neptune. Auburn also got a safety when Cody Sigler sacked Hampton and forced an intentional grounding call, and Omar Mabson II capped his career-high 108-yard rushing night with a 2-yard touchdown late in the third quarter. Auburn finished with 343 rushing yards and 613 total yards, offsetting 10 penalties along the way.

The win improved Auburn to 2-0, following a one-point escape against Baylor in the opener, and gave first-year head coach Alex Golesh a chance to get creative with playcalling and roster rotations once the lead ballooned. Southern Miss fell to 1-1. Auburn
