Tennessee picked up its first Power Four win of the season, going on the road and holding off Georgia Tech 45-24 in the Volunteers' first true road test of the year.

Freshman quarterback Faizon Brandon connected with tight end Ethan Davis for the second straight week to open the scoring, hitting him on a 25-yard strike to put Tennessee up 7-0 just over two minutes into the game. Georgia Tech answered with a much longer, more methodical drive, chewing six minutes off the clock before settling for a 30-yard field goal to cut it to 7-3. The Yellow Jackets' defense settled in from there, forcing a Tennessee punt from deep in its own territory, and Georgia Tech capitalized on a blocked punt that it returned for a touchdown to briefly seize the lead.

Tennessee found its footing after that, with running back DeSean Bishop breaking off a big run that blew the game open and set up another Davis touchdown. Wide receiver Braylon Staley also got in on the scoring, hauling in a touchdown catch in the second quarter. Georgia Tech continued to answer, with quarterback Alberto Mendoza connecting with running back Justice Haynes on a short touchdown pass to cut the deficit to 31-17 with 7:10 left in the third quarter, keeping the door open for a comeback bid. But Tennessee's offense steadied down the stretch, adding a late insurance score from Bishop and a final touchdown from Morris to put the game away at 45-24.

Brandon finished with 226 passing yards, Bishop led the ground game with 97 rushing yards, and Mike Matthews paced the receivers with 132 receiving yards for Tennessee. The win improved Tennessee to 2-0, while Georgia Tech fell to 0-2. Tennessee returns home to host Kennesaw State next Saturday, while Georgia Tech looks to regroup after a tough start.
