Watch the Condensed Game from Louisiana Tech Bulldogs vs. LSU Tigers

Louisiana Tech 14, LSU 45
Tiger Stadium, Baton Rouge, LA. September 12, 2026

Lane Kiffin's LSU Tigers survived a bumpy, turnover-plagued night to pull away from Louisiana Tech in the fourth quarter, holding off the upset-minded Bulldogs 45-14 in a game far more competitive than the final score suggests.

LSU's offense was out of sorts from the start, opening the game with a three-and-out and never quite finding its rhythm. Quarterback Sam Leavitt turned in one of the strangest stat lines of the young season, rushing for three touchdowns while also throwing three interceptions. Two of those picks came in the closing minutes of the first half, with Louisiana Tech's Jordan McCrae returning one 100 yards for a touchdown after a forced throw into coverage, before Leavitt threw a third interception near the goal line. Louisiana Tech, appearing far more prepared than many expected in its first-ever meeting with LSU, kept the game a one-score affair deep into the third quarter.

LSU's defense carried the load for much of the night, controlling the game from the outset with sacks, tackles for loss, and a steady stream of three-and-outs that kept Louisiana Tech's offense off balance despite the Tigers' own struggles moving the ball. Eventually, LSU's talent and depth wore the Bulldogs down, and the Tigers reeled off the game's final stretch of scoring over the last 20 minutes to pull away for the 45-14 final.

The win improved LSU to 2-0 in Kiffin's second game as head coach, a far messier follow-up to his debut, a 51-10 rout of Clemson the week before on College GameDay. Louisiana Tech fell to 1-1 despite the spirited effort. LSU turns to a marquee matchup next Saturday, traveling to Oxford for the Magnolia Bowl against Ole Miss, also on College GameDay.
