Ninth-ranked Ole Miss cruised past Charlotte 41-9 in its home opener, riding a dominant first half and a two-touchdown, two-interception night from quarterback Trinidad Chambliss to remain unbeaten under first-year head coach Pete Golding.

Chambliss was nearly untouchable, completing 23 of 26 passes for 225 yards and two touchdowns, while Kewan Lacy added two rushing scores as the Rebels built a commanding 27-0 halftime lead. Ole Miss capped the first half in dramatic fashion when Charlotte pushed into field goal range a second time, only for Nick Cull to intercept a Cole Gonzales pass and return it 38 yards, setting up a Lucas Carneiro 41-yard field goal as time expired to push the lead to 27-0 heading into the break.

Charlotte showed some life to open the second half, with Chance Williams breaking off a 43-yard run on the very first play of the third quarter, but the 49ers could never seriously threaten the outcome. Gonzales finished 14 of 21 for 128 yards for Charlotte, which continued to struggle offensively after opening the season with a 43-41 triple-overtime loss to FCS opponent The Citadel.

The win improved Ole Miss to 2-0 on the season, coming off a wild 41-38 escape against then-No. 24 Louisville the week before in which Carneiro's 48-yard field goal as time expired sealed the win. Charlotte fell to 0-2, extending the program's losing streak to 10 games dating back to last September. Ole Miss turns to a marquee matchup next week, hosting LSU in the Magnolia Bowl on College GameDay.
