Jake Hager underwent emergency eye surgery after Thursday’s Power Slap 23 in Lubbock, Texas.

Hager lost to Johnny Magna by TKO after a slap left him bleeding from his left eye and the cageside doctor stopped the bout. “He hit me right in the eye,” Hager said as medical personnel came in. Dana White decided not to air a replay and told Nina Drama it was one of the worst injuries he’s seen in Power Slap or UFC, and that he’d do whatever it took to get Hager medical attention.

Hager’s partner, Patricia Blackburn, a Power Slap fighter, gave the update to slap_news: “Thank you to the UFC and Power Slap family for the incredible love and support you’ve shown Jake during this difficult time. Jake is currently recovering from an emergency eye surgery. We’re taking things one day at a time and keeping the details private, but your kindness, support, and genuine concern have meant more than you know. Thank you for being there for Jake. We’re so grateful to be part of a community that shows up when it matters most.”

It was Hager’s third Power Slap bout. He won his debut in April over Devin Jenkins and lost in July to Amanpreet Singh, who wrestles as Mahabali Shera. Hager, 44, is a former WWE World Heavyweight Champion and worked for AEW from 2019 to 2024.
