Mr. T says he didn't want to host Saturday Night Live the night before WrestleMania I.

Mr. T and Hulk Hogan hosted SNL on March 30, 1985, then wrestled Roddy Piper and Paul Orndorff at Madison Square Garden the next afternoon. On What's Your Story with Steph McMahon, Mr. T said he was in character the whole weekend and complaining about it. "I said, man, we shouldn't be on these shows, man. Piper and them, they resting up, they training, we promoting. Man, I don't want to do these shows." He said the Liberace appearance and the sketches piled up: "I said, oh man, this is too much." Looking back: "It was wonderful. It was fun. A lot of memories. You had to be there."

He also said the hardest part of WrestleMania I was convincing wrestlers he wasn't cutting in on them. "They think that I was cutting in on the thing, not knowing that I'm there to help them, I'm broadening the horizon."

Other things from the interview:

Hulk Hogan is his favorite wrestler. He said they became buddies on Rocky III and Hogan taught him about the business before WrestleMania. "He had it. It was special. Ripping off the shirt and all that stuff, it really, wow. He was the man. He was, for sure."

Muhammad Ali refereeing at WrestleMania I was the third time their paths crossed. Ali came to his high school when he won Chicago's city wrestling title, Mr. T later worked as bodyguard for Ali and Leon Spinks, and Rocky's house in Rocky III was Ali's real house in Hancock Park.

He gave his Toughest Bouncer prize money to his church both times he won, and the Rocky III casting call came a week after the second win.

He was sued by his brothers and sisters and by the disco that employed him after he became famous. "My mother said, 'Son, success has many fathers.'"

On the new Netflix documentary, he said it left out his Army service and his Make-A-Wish work, "and that's a part in the doc that sort of pissed me off."

Stephanie wore his WrestleMania 2 boxing trunks on set; WWE found them in its archive.

Untold Mr. T: I Pity the Fool is streaming now on Netflix. The full interview is on What's Your Story with Steph McMahon.
