Alkaline Trio, Louder Than Life 2026

LIVE REVIEW: There’s a moment during Alkaline Trio’s impeccable set where it feels like time stops. It’s shortly after the band have dealt out a beautiful rendition of ‘Warbrain’, which is dedicated to the memory of Dr Thomas James Skiba, where the emotion of the song and the sentiment hit Matt Skiba so hard that he is wiping away tears and thanking the crowd before him for allowing them the chance to do such things.
It’s a pertinent reminder that even after all these years, the weight of what Alkaline Trio represents is something much bigger than just punk rock.
It’s also why you see the band’s logo tattooed on the skin of so many people here, including recently recruited drummer Tosh Petersen, singing along like their lives depend on it. It really does mean everything.
That’s not to say that the trio aren’t still loads of fun to experience inbetween those emotional bursts. ‘I Wanna Be A Warhol’ is romance incarnate, whilst ‘Is This Thing Cursed?’ is the sort of chill necessary to cut through the Kentucky heat. Throw in an earnest ‘Mercy Me’, chest-pounding ‘Radio’, and an explosive ‘Oblivion’, and you have every base of their influential career covered. A set that feels celebratory, for those here and for those no longer with us, and a marker for just how much joy this band provides for those on both sides of the barricade.
