If you’ve been wondering what the difference is between red velvet cake and chocolate cake besides the food coloring…red velvet is traditionally supposed to be a lighter chocolate cake (always made with cocoa, not melted chocolate) with either vinegar or buttermilk for tang. It’s often paired with cream cheese frosting, but ermine frosting is also a great choice if you want something a little less sweet!
