This Apple & Hazelnut Crumble Pie goes perfectly with your evening coffee!

Serves 6–8

Ingredients

Pastry

* 1 sheet puff pastry (approximately 250–300 g)
* 1 egg, beaten, for egg wash

Apple Topping

* 3 medium apples, thinly sliced
* 1 tbsp lemon juice
* 1 tsp ground cinnamon
* 2 tbsp white sugar

Cinnamon Butter Spread

* 60 g unsalted butter, softened
* 25 g brown sugar
* 15 g white sugar
* 1 tsp ground cinnamon

Hazelnut Crumble

* 50 g all-purpose flour
* 20 g white sugar
* 20 g brown sugar
* 50–60 g toasted hazelnuts, roughly chopped
* 40 g cold unsalted butter, cubed

Optional Finish

* 1–2 tbsp honey, for drizzling

Method

1. Preheat the oven to 200°C and line a baking tray with baking paper.
2. In a bowl, combine the sliced apples, lemon juice, cinnamon, and white sugar. Toss until the apples are evenly coated and set aside.
3. Prepare the cinnamon butter spread by mixing the softened butter, brown sugar, white sugar, and cinnamon until smooth and creamy.
4. Make the hazelnut crumble. In a bowl, combine the flour, white sugar, brown sugar, and chopped toasted hazelnuts. Rub in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
5. Place the puff pastry sheet on the prepared baking tray. Using a sharp knife, score a border approximately 2.5 cm (1 inch) from the edge all the way around, being careful not to cut through the pastry.
6. Spread the cinnamon butter mixture evenly inside the scored border.
7. Arrange the apple slices decoratively over the butter layer. Create alternating rows by laying approximately five overlapping apple slices in one direction, then another group of five slices at a 90-degree angle. Continue alternating the pattern across the tart.
8. Sprinkle the hazelnut crumble evenly over the apples.
9. Brush the scored pastry border with the beaten egg.
10. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and deeply golden and the apples are lightly caramelized.
11. Allow the tart to cool slightly before slicing.
12. If desired, drizzle with honey just before serving.

Serve warm or at room temperature.
