THE DAWGS ARE STILL IN THE FIGHT

5 games in, we’re sitting at 2–3 and 4th place in the PFC. 'Toon comes into town this weekend at 3–2, while Calgary and the Cats are right there with us at 2–3. More importantly, our last 3 games are against 'Toon, Colts and the Cats. The teams we’re battling with, are all still right in front of us. It starts Sunday with 'Toon at JP Bowl.
The last 3 weeks haven’t gone the way we wanted, but there’s also more going on than what you see in a final score. The boys were at the airport at 4:30am, flew to 'Peg and still came out and scored on the 2nd play of the game. Energy wasn’t the issue. We hurt ourselves with penalties, killed some good drives and gave 'Peg extra opportunities. Frustrating, but fixable. Clean up the mistakes, play disciplined and finish drives, there's still a lot in front of this team.
Opinions from the outside comes with football, but there’s a big difference between looking at a score on your phone and actually being around the team. The people at practice, in the meetings and around these players see it. Nobody here is pretending everything has been perfect. It hasn’t. The players & coaches know what needs to improve better than anyone. These guys are still showing up, still working and still competing for each other.
This being National Coaches Week, makes featuring 5th-year Gage Paul pretty fitting. Gage’s season was cut short by injury, but he never quit. Instead, as is his nature being last years recipient of the Huskie that does the most with the least recognition, found a way to still help. He has taken on a role running our scout team and continues to find a way to contribute. That says it all.
It also gives us a good chance to say thank you to Coach Klein and our entire coaching staff for the time they put into supporting these young men. So much work happens when nobody is watching, and it deserves to be recognized. Thank you all!
