Getty Images Special Correspondent John Moore jbmoorephoto traveled to Costa Rica to photograph the work of The Coming Home Project, a veteran-founded and run non-profit that organizes a psychedelic-assisted healing program at Rythmia, a center that specializes in the use of psychedelics. The resort is licensed by the Ministry of Health and is the only such legal Ayahuasca plant medicine treatment center in the world. The program, which is a joint effort between Rythmia and The Coming Home Project, is designed to help heal combat trauma such as PTSD and other chronic psychological issues. The majority attending were former U.S. Special Forces, most of whom had completed multiple combat deployments to war zones in Iraq and Afghanistan. During the weeklong program, attendees take part in guided Ayahuasca "journeys" in a supervised setting, and participate in workshops to explore breakthroughs and insights they can carry into their everyday lives.

The former aviator and Top Gun graduate served multiple deployments to Iraq, suffering injuries due to high-G flights and was diagnosed with PTSD before his first Ayahuasca experience in 2023. Post-military, Odom has taken on a leadership role in The Coming Home Project.
