Guy at the pumps last month asked what year my car was, then asked if it was "the four-cylinder one." I've never wanted to pop a hood so badly in my life. That's the whole situation with the W205 C63 right now — the badge stopped meaning what it used to mean, and the cars that still mean it are getting cheaper while everyone argues about hybrid horsepower numbers.

Here's the part people skip: the M177 in this car is a 4.0L hot-V twin-turbo, hand-assembled, one engine one builder, plaque on the cover. 469hp and 479 lb-ft in the base C63, 503hp and 516 lb-ft in the S. Rear-drive only. No AWD safety net, no torque split to save you. 7-speed MCT wet-clutch through 2018, 9-speed after the facelift, mechanical LSD on the base and the electronically controlled unit on the S.
