## Caption

The RS badge makes way more sense when you read it backwards, and the C5 is the part everyone conveniently forgets. Save this before you argue about it in someone's comments.

1. The RS2 wasn't really an Audi. Porsche co-developed it and assembled it in Zuffenhausen, and it wore the proof — 911 Cup-style wheels, 911 mirrors, Porsche brakes, PORSCHE spelled out across the nose. A 2.2 turbo five in a family wagon, and Audi's whole performance identity started from that.

2. It started as a wagon on purpose. The fast-estate thing wasn't a niche experiment for Audi, it was the default. Every argument you've had about sedan vs Avant was already settled in 1994.

3. The B7 RS4 is the peak and it isn't close. 4.2 FSI, naturally aspirated, spinning past 8,000. No turbos to hide behind, no tune file to fix a bad chassis. Just a V8 that makes you look for tunnels.

4. Everybody skipped the C5 RS6 and the reason is boring: no manual, big weight, and the DRC system that turns a Saturday afternoon job into a six-week saga of leaking accumulators, borrowed spring compressors, and three separate trips because the fitting you needed was never the fitting on the shelf. That's exactly why it's the cheapest twin-turbo V8 Audi ever put on a lot.

5. The RS3 is the actual heir, not the RS4 or RS6. Not because of the power number — because of the five-cylinder. That 2.5 TFSI is the last direct line back to the RS2, and the noise it makes is a 30-year-old argument still being won.

Buy the badge if you want. Buy the five-pot if you get it.
