BREAKING: Two professional clowns were escorted out of Adweek Brandweek in Atlanta after a marketing company paid for their conference tickets and instructed them to attend in full costume.

According to reports, the clowns were not artificial intelligence, not employees of the company, and not a metaphor. They were real working clowns.

The firm behind the activation, Memelord (memelordtech), said it had grown tired of attending every industry conference in person and elected to send clowns instead. Business cards featuring the Memelord app were distributed on-site while attendees approached the performers for photos.

Organizers later removed the clowns, citing that only standard attendee tickets had been purchased rather than a “roaming booth” sponsorship, which they said would be unfair to other sponsors.

Memelord founder iamjasonlevin was not at the conference. He was reportedly on a beach in Miami receiving updates by text.

The company has described the outcome as evidence that boring marketers are threatened by clowns, and that clowns may represent the future of marketing.

This is a developing story.
