In Focus: Marina Rheingantz, ‘Bromélia Caranguejo’ (2026) at White Cube Seoul ✨⁠

‘Bromélia Caranguejo’ (2026) was inspired by a photograph taken in a Peruvian rainforest, looking up through the forest canopy. Marina was struck by the bromeliads growing both on the forest floor and up the trees, and associated their forms with the shape of crabs, prompting the work’s title.⁠
⁠
In Marina’s landscapes, perspective is rarely allowed to settle. Horizon lines and definitive spatial markers fall away, leaving the eye to move between uncertain registers of distance and scale. ‘Bromélia Caranguejo’ begins with the suggestion of a more conventional spatial order, where silhouetted twigs occupy an apparent foreground, yet the landscape ‘beyond’ is divided into planes of green and ecru that remain spatially indeterminate, resisting an orderly recession into depth.⁠
