After a 16-year-old Central Park horse named Deniz died suddenly in June, the Park's carriage horse drivers began suspecting it was due to eating Japanese Yew, which is common all over the Park.

Simultaneously, carriage drivers in Central Park have been increasingly accused of abusing their horses, and many accused Deniz's driver of mortally overworking him.

Deniz's owner has filed a notice of claim against New York City and the Central Park Conservancy demanding toxic plant inspections, warnings, and removals to protect horses, wildlife, and children.
