A Phoenix middle school PE teacher has been arrested after police say he sent inappropriate videos and messages to a 14-year-old former student.

Reno Ferris, a seventh- and eighth-grade PE teacher at Global Academy of Phoenix, is facing two felony counts of furnishing obscene material to minors.

Phoenix police began investigating after the Department of Child Safety received a report that a 14-year-old girl was possibly being groomed by her former teacher. The girl told investigators Ferris had been messaging her across multiple social media platforms since mid-August.

Police say investigators reviewed her devices with a parent’s permission and found messages and explicit videos sent from an account linked to Ferris. Authorities say Ferris knew the girl was 14.

Ferris was arrested Wednesday. Police say he admitted to having inappropriate sexual conversations with his former student, but investigators say the two never met in person.

He is being held on a $75,000 bond. The Alhambra Elementary School District says Ferris was placed on administrative leave after officials learned about the investigation and that the district is cooperating with police.
