A dispute over $15 to fix one broken nail allegedly escalated into gunfire at a Phoenix nail salon with 18 people inside.

Phoenix police say Essence Mire, 26, got into an argument with an employee at Element Nail Bar near 16th Street and Bethany Home Road after being told it would cost $15 to repair a broken fingernail.

Investigators say Mire punched the employee in the face, walked outside, got a gun and fired one shot at the business. The bullet struck the front glass door and shattered it while customers and employees inside either ran out the back or hid.

Police later tracked Mire to her home. Court documents say she admitted to punching the worker and firing at the salon, allegedly telling investigators she wanted to scare them into fixing her nail for free.

She was booked on several charges, including aggravated assault and discharging a firearm at a nonresidence. Her bond was set at $100,000.
