A 17-year-old Phoenix teen helped police identify his alleged killer in the moments before he passed away, giving investigators a name, a vehicle description and even a phone number.

Sincere D’Andre Venson was found critically injured at a west Phoenix park on September 6. While first responders were trying to save him, police say Venson identified 18-year-old Joshua Armstrong as the person who shot him.

According to court documents, Venson described Armstrong’s black BMW and gave officers his phone so they could verify Armstrong’s number. Venson was taken to the hospital, where he later passed away from his injuries.

Investigators say they then found evidence that supported what Venson had told them.

A second phone was discovered near the park, and police say the number matched the contact information Venson had provided for Armstrong. Surveillance footage also reportedly showed the group arriving at the park together before the shooting, then Armstrong and 18-year-old Luis Gonzalez running from the area afterward.

Witnesses told investigators the group had been hanging out before the shooting and that there had been no argument leading up to it.

Armstrong and Gonzalez were arrested Thursday. Both are facing first-degree murder and armed robbery charges and were ordered held on $1 million bonds.
