A 12-year-old and 13-year-old are accused of being involved in at least 11 stolen cars in Glendale, with police saying the two targeted mostly Kias and Hyundais over summer break.

According to Glendale police, the investigation started after detectives noticed a spike in vehicle thefts across the city.

Police say the boys were tied to multiple stolen Kia Optimas and Hyundais, including incidents where the cars were allegedly driven recklessly through neighborhoods, used for donuts and even taken out to go “drifting.”

Investigators say the 12-year-old admitted being involved in at least eight vehicle thefts and told police he participated because of the “adrenaline rush.”

The 13-year-old allegedly described using a screwdriver to break into the vehicles, damage the ignition and get them started.

Police say the two specifically targeted Kias and Hyundais that used traditional keys instead of push-button starts.

Their alleged run ended after officers spotted them running through a Glendale neighborhood. Police say the boys jumped fences and cut through backyards before a drone helped officers find them hiding underneath an RV trailer.

Investigators later connected the pair to at least 11 vehicle thefts between August 4 and August 12.

Police also questioned the 13-year-old about a social media account that allegedly showed stolen Kias and Hyundais being driven recklessly, including a crashed Kia Soul. He reportedly told detectives the account was shared among multiple kids.

Both boys were booked on multiple charges, and police say additional charges could still be filed as the investigation continues.
