The FDA has approved Inluriyo plus Verzenio for adults with ER positive, HER2 negative, ESR1 mutated locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer after progression on endocrine therapy.

The Phase 3 result is meaningful.

11.1 months median progression free survival with the combination.

5.5 months with Inluriyo alone.

Both medicines are oral.

But the bigger story is what this says about where oncology is heading.

Breast cancer is no longer treated only as one disease defined by where it began. Increasingly, treatment depends on the molecular features driving the tumor:

ER positive
HER2 negative
ESR1 mutated

That is precision oncology in practice.

Identify the pathway helping the cancer survive.

Then target that pathway directly.

The next major signal to watch is whether this strategy can move earlier in the disease course, before metastatic recurrence.
