What a way to start off the TTU career 💀

Thomas Castellanos’ college football journey has taken another unexpected turn, with the veteran quarterback now finishing his career at Texas Tech.

Castellanos began his career at UCF in 2022 before transferring to Boston College, where he became one of the most dangerous dual-threat quarterbacks in the ACC. In 2023, he threw for 2,248 yards while adding more than 1,100 rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns. 

After two seasons at Boston College, Castellanos transferred to Florida State for 2025. His Seminoles debut immediately made headlines as FSU upset No. 8 Alabama 31–17, with Castellanos accounting for 230 total yards and a rushing touchdown. 

Florida State’s season ultimately didn’t go as planned, finishing 5–7, but Castellanos started all 12 games and put together one of his best statistical seasons. He threw for 2,760 yards and 15 touchdowns while rushing for another 557 yards and nine scores. His rushing totals set Florida State single-season quarterback records for both yards and touchdowns. 

Now his journey has taken him to Lubbock.

Castellanos joined Texas Tech late in preseason camp in August, entering a quarterback room led by Will Hammond and competing for the backup job. He brings more than 6,400 career passing yards, nearly 2,000 rushing yards and 72 total touchdowns across stops at UCF, Boston College and Florida State. 

UCF → Boston College → Florida State → Texas Tech.

Four schools, four conferences and one of the more unique quarterback journeys in college football.
