Florida and Tennessee gave us one of the most unforgettable endings in SEC rivalry history in 2017.

No. 24 Florida welcomed No. 23 Tennessee to The Swamp for an SEC opener that was dominated by defense for most of the afternoon. The Gators led just 6–3 entering the fourth quarter, with neither offense having scored a touchdown.

Then the game completely opened up.

Florida freshman cornerback C.J. Henderson returned an interception 16 yards for a touchdown to make it 13–3. Tennessee answered with a 34-yard John Kelly touchdown run before Feleipe Franks found Brandon Powell for a five-yard score, giving Florida a 20–10 lead with 5:13 remaining.

Tennessee wasn’t finished.

Quinten Dormady connected with Ethan Wolf for a 28-yard touchdown just 30 seconds later, and after getting the ball back, the Volunteers drove into field-goal range.

Aaron Medley drilled a 27-yard field goal with 50 seconds remaining.

20–20.

Florida appeared to be heading toward overtime. With only nine seconds remaining and the ball at its own 37-yard line, the Gators needed a miracle.

Feleipe Franks provided one.

The redshirt freshman escaped pressure, stepped toward the line of scrimmage and launched the ball more than 60 yards through the air.

Tyrie Cleveland had gotten behind the Tennessee secondary.

He tracked it down, dove into the end zone and secured the catch as the clock hit 0:00.

63 yards. Touchdown. Florida 26. Tennessee 20.

It was just Franks’ second career start and his first victory as Florida’s quarterback. He finished with 212 passing yards and two touchdowns, while Cleveland led the Gators with 93 receiving yards.

Florida’s own records indicate it was believed to be the first time in program history the Gators won a game with a touchdown on the final play of regulation.

Nine seconds left.

Sixty-three yards away.

Franks to Cleveland.

One of the greatest finishes The Swamp has ever seen.
