For the second time this year a cruise ship has docked in Alaska with a dead endangered fin whale on its bow. 💔

Ships — the only oceangoing entities that rival whales in size — can kill these swimming giants in an instant as they hurtle through their habitat.

Collisions with vessels are one of the most frequent causes of premature death for several highly endangered marine mammals, including fin whales.

Speed limits for cars keep people safe, cruise ships should also be required to travel at safe speeds for whales.

Without required ship speed limits through whale hotspots, we'll continue to see tragic incidents like this again and again.

This tragedy could have and should have been avoided.

We have long been advocating for vessel speed limits and we'll continue to do so until whales are safe from vessel strikes.

Here's how you can help: We're calling on cruise ship companies to slow their ships down in areas where whales are likely to be present. Add your voice at 🐋➡️ biodiv.us/cruise
