On the night of February 8, 1983, masked men with guns kidnapped Shergar, a champion racehorse worth more than $50 million in today’s currency. Belfast-based filmmaker Alison Millar is one of the few people to interview Shergar’s head groom Jim Fitzgerald, who was there that night at Ballymany Farm in Ireland. “They ordered him by gunpoint to come out and take them down to the stable where Shergar was,” says Millar. After driving about 30 miles with Fitzgerald and Shergar, the kidnappers released Fitzgerald. Millar says he was told to “get out of the car and shut up. ‘Don't talk about this.’” Fitzgerald was forever traumatized by the experience, Millar says.
